Trooper Kevin Trainor Crash Lynnfield, MA Death Obituary: Trooper Kevin Has Died In A Fatal Crash

LYNNFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Police have identified the trooper killed in a wrong-way collision early Wednesday morning as 30-year-old Trooper Kevin Trainor, who officials say will be remembered for his service and dedication to duty. According to State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble, the crash occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Route 1 in Lynnfield.

Authorities stated that troopers were responding to reports of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when the fatal collision occurred. Investigators confirmed that a Jeep Wrangler was being driven in the wrong direction when it struck Trainor’s marked police cruiser head-on.

Trooper Trainor, who was off duty and returning home at the conclusion of his shift, became trapped inside his severely damaged vehicle following the impact. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided extensive medical assistance; however, he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 1 in Lynnfield is a major highway in Essex County, north of Boston, carrying high-speed traffic through a divided multi-lane roadway. At the time of the crash, the early morning conditions meant the roadway was relatively quiet but dark, with limited traffic and reduced visibility.

Preliminary information indicates that the wrong-way vehicle was traveling against the flow of traffic when it collided with Trainor’s cruiser. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the driver entering the incorrect lanes, including possible impairment, confusion, or other contributing factors.
